Overview
Fave Acre Co. was hosting a concert poster design contest for the upcoming event Vortex Vol. 2 Submerge. A EDM concert with an under water theme.
Rational
With a provided mood board from Five Acre Co. for their event Vortex Vol. 2 Submerge I was all set to create. The mood board included images of coral reefs, water, and mermaids.
So for my design I went the illustrative route. Using Adobe Illustrator I created an illustration of a punk mermaid DJ'ing on a mix board. At first the turquoise skin was just a place holder colour until I finished the base colours for the illustration, but then I started to really like the turquoise skin. The way it complemented the hair was perfect so I kept the skin turquoise.
Process
At first I was going to use Adobe InDesign to create this poster, but unfortunately InDesign didn't have the features I needed to create what I visioned so I switch to Adobe Illustrator. I started with the illustration of the mermaid and mix board, blocking out the colours and shapes before adding more detail. After the illustration was complete I moved onto the text layout then I moved to creating the background.
