(Unofficial) Folklife Article Magazine Spread(s)
For this project I was challenged to design article spreads for the article Hoodies : The Hoodies Place in Fear and Fashion (by Alison Kenny) in the style of the Folklife Magazine under the guidance of an assigned art director (one of my classmates).
Before I began even laying out the spreads I first had to study and understand how Folklife lays out and designed their spreads since my challenge was to imitate them. While studying I learned a lot of minute details about editorial design and how professionals layout the picture and text on a page.
When it came to designing and laying out the pages I went back and forth with my assigned art director to make sure everything was perfect, down to the leading. We both made sure we did our best in executing the spreads and choosing the imaging to convey what is written in the given article, as well as what you would find in Folklife.
This was my first editorial design project and I am really rather proud of it.
